These Bulbs Are Not on the Menu!

Are you tired of battling pesky deer munching on your blooms? Here’s a trick: plant spring-flowering bulbs like daffodils, muscari, hyacinths, and alliums, as they contain a bitter substance to deter deer and rodents! Incorporating these bulbs into your garden can extend your spring blooming period for weeks. Visit FlowerBulbs.com for more inspiration and information.

Plus, see below for 30 deer-resistant perennials to add with your deer-resistant bulbs!

Deer-Resistant Perennials

Deer will munch on almost anything when they're hungry, but they tend to avoid plants with strong fragrances, bitter tastes, thorny stems, unappealing textures, or toxic compounds. Late winter and early spring are prime times for garden plants to become deer snacks when food is scarce, so plan ahead & plant these deer-resistant perennials for a no-graze garden in spring.

How & When to Prune Your Shrubs & Perennials (Including Hydrangeas!)

Some of the most common gardening questions in fall are about pruning. Our friends over at Proven Winners have gathered all their best pruning articles and put them in one place. Check it out and get all your questions answered regarding how and when to prune your shrubs and perennials. (Hint: Very little, if any, pruning is done in fall, so put your pruners down until you read this.) Photo by Proven Winners.

Don't Overlook Your Side Yard

Don't let your side yard turn into a dumping ground this fall and winter. Take this time to make the most of this often under-utilized space. See how to get started, learn what elements to include, find out what to consider when adding plants, and best of all, take a look at what other homeowners have done and get inspired.
